First Generation: Immigration to America

Joseph August Golla, son of Peter and Veronica Golla, was born 25 Dec 1858 in Danzig, Prussia; married abt 1878; immigrated to the United States in 1880. Joseph lived in Baltimore, MD until late 1885, when he moved the family to Dents Run, PA. According to census information, Joseph became a naturalized citizen in 1887. The family lived in Dent's run until 1890, when they bought a home in Penfield, PA. In 1900 the family moved to Caledonia, PA, when Joseph was made a section foreman on the railroad. By 1920 Joseph was living in Huston Township, PA, and by 1930 he was living in Dubois, PA. Joseph died 24 Jul 1934 in DuBois, Clearfield, PA, and is buried in St. Michael's Polish cemetery in Dubois, PA.

Prior to coming to America, Joseph worked in a brewery in Germany. After coming to America, Joseph spent many years working on the Pennsylvania railroad.

Frances Gdanietz, daughter of Peter Gdanietz and Catherine Radowska, and wife of Joseph Golla, was born 18 Apr 1852 in Danzig, Prussia. She immigrated to the United States about 1881 with her brother-in-law John Golla, and his wife, who located in Alpena, Michigan after coming to the United States. Frances died 27 Nov 1927 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA. Records indicate alternate spellings of her maiden name as Gdence, Gdance, and Gdinetz. Some relatives adopted the last name Dennis after immigrating to the United States.

  • Rose Golla, born 24 Sep 1880 in Germany; died 4 Mar 1940. Married Joseph Shivie.
  • Frank Golla, born 2 Oct 1882 in Baltimore, MD; died 1 May 1914 in St. Mary's, PA.
  • Joseph Peter Golla, born 13 Jan 1886 in Dents Run, PA; died 26 Aug 1975. Married Elizabeth Regulski.
  • Helen Frances Golla, born 25 Dec 1888 in Dents Run, PA; died 6 May 1986. Married 1) Joseph Orsie, and 2) John R. Hawk.
  • Veronica Golla, born 20 May 1891 in Penfield, PA; died 9 Jan 1973 in Phoenix, AZ. Married George Stojek.
  • Catherine Golla, born 20 May 1891 in Penfield, PA; died 14 Oct 1939 in Nanty-Glo, PA. Married Martin Lesneski.
  • John Patrick Golla, born 17 Mar 1893 in Penfield, PA; died 28 Oct 1950. Married Victoria Michvick.
  • August Leo Golla, born 9 Feb 1895 in Penfield, PA; died April 1986. Married Anne Kilzen.

Second Generation

Rose Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 24 Sep 1880 in Germany; immigrated to the US in 1881 with her mother; died 4 Mar 1940. Married Joseph Shivie 26 Apr 1896. Joseph Shivie was born about 1870 in Austria, and immigrated to the United States in 1886. According to census records, Joseph Shivie worked as a railroad laborer.

Frank Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 2 Oct 1882 in Baltimore, MD. Frank was in the army, and was stationed in New York City for three years. Frank married on 12 Feb 1908 Emma Weidenboerner, who was born in Pennsylvania about 1878. Frank worked as a railroad laborer, and was an assistant foreman and a section foreman. Frank died 1 May 1914 at St. Marys, Pennsylvania at the age of 31. After Frank's death, Emma may have relocated to Troy, PA, as there is an Emma Golla listed in the 1920 census that was a housekeeper for the Catholic priest's house in Troy. Frank and Emma, along with their son Francis, are buried in St. Catherine's Cemetery in BuBois, PA.

Joseph Peter Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 13 Jan 1886 in Dents Run, PA. Married Elizabeth Regulski on 29 Oct 1908. Worked as a railroad section foreman. Joseph died 26 August 1975.

Note that census information indicates Joseph was born in Baltimore, MD. It is possible that the family didn't move to Dents Run, PA after Joseph was born.

  • Joseph W. Golla, born 16 Oct 1919 in Reynoldsville, Jefferson, PA; died 26 Feb 2005 in Fountain Hill, Lehigh, PA. Married Patricia Orner.
  • Anna Margaret Golla, born 29 Jul 1925, died 19 Jan 1993. Married Marion Meme.
  • Paul E. Golla, born 11 Apr 1930. Married Jennie Laboo.

Helen Frances Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, born 25 Dec 1888 in Dents Run, PA. Also known as Elena or Ella. Married 1) Joseph Ralph Orsie (Orsimarsi) on 4 May 1904. Joseph Orsie died 9 Aug 1913. Helen married 2) John R. Hawk on 16 Feb 1919. Before marrying John Hawk, Helen worked in a meat market, then as a store clerk. Helen died 6 May 1968 in Ridgeway, Elk, PA.

Joseph and Helen (Orsie) had 4 children:

  • Joanna Orsie, born 5 Feb 1905, died 8 Jan 1999. Married Simon Gurneau.
  • Frances Orsie, born 7 Dec 1906. Married 1) John Batts, and 2) Conrad Mass.
  • Mary Magdaline Orsie, born 5 May 1908. Married Claude Healy.
  • Veronica Orsie, born 20 Mar 1912, died 9 Oct 1999. Married Alfred Mitcheltree.

Veronica Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 20 May 1891 in Dents Run, PA. Veronica, who also went by "Verona" or "Veronie", was a twin with her sister Catherine. Veronica married on 7 May 1919 George Stojek, who was born abt 1890 in Poland, and who immigrated to the United States in 1912. George died of cancer when the children were young, and is buried in the Polish cemetery in DuBois, PA. Veronica died 9 Jan 1973 in Phoenix, AZ, and is buried in DuBois, PA.

George and Veronica had 3 children:

Catherine Golla, daughter of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 20 May 1891 in Dents Run, PA. Catherine, who also went by "Katie", was a twin with her sister Veronica. She married Martin Lesneski, son of Frank and Dora Lesneski, on 26 Jan 1910 in Tyler, Clearfield, PA. Martin was born in Germany on 12 Nov 1886, and died following a mining accident on 21 Feb 1929 in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA. Catherine died 14 Oct 1939 in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA, and is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Nanty Glo, Cambria, PA.

John Patrick Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 17 Mar 1893 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA. John married Victoria Michvick (alternately Majchrzak or Maychrzah) on 15 May 1916. He died from kidney complications on 28 Oct 1950, and is buried in Reynoldsville, Jefferson, PA.

John and Victoria had 6 children:

  • Edward J. Golla, born 6 May 1917 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA; died 26 May 2007 in Dubois, Clearfield, PA. Married Katherine Welsh.
  • Lillian Golla, born 30 Oct 1920. Married Tom Neal.

August Leo Golla, son of Joseph Golla and Frances Gdanietz, was born 9 Feb 1895 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA. Attended a school in Philadelphia. August married Anne Kilzen (possibly Kylcenski) on 23 Jun 1920. He died Apr 1986.

Children of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie

Mary Shivie, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie, was born 10 Feb 1897. Taught school before getting married to Percy Dixon on 13 Mar 1917. Had at least 3 children: Helen, born 16 Dec 1917; Max, born 29 Jul 1919; and Robert, born 17 Jan 1921.

Frances Shivie, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie, was born 10 Feb 1900, died 10 Dec 1990. She married Donald Dixon 23 Jun 1921. Had at least 2 children: Bernadine, born 31 Oct 1923; and Jack, born 16 Mar 1926.

Katherine Shivie, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie, was born 16 Mar 1910.

Josephine Shivie, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie, was born 13 Aug 1912; married after 1930 to Roy Danner. Had at least 1 son.

Maxine Shivie, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Golla) Shivie. She married _____ Puschar, and had at least one child.


Children of Frank and Emma (Weidenboerner) Golla

Francis Golla, son of Frank and Emma (Weidenboerner) Golla, was born abt 1909 in PA. Francis had spinal meningitis, and died in the flu epidemic in 1918.


Children of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski) Golla

Leona Golla, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 3 Aug 1909. Married Harold Schelinberger and had 3 children: Donald, Karen, and Mark.

Mary Golla, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 29 Jun 1912. Married Joseph Mancuso and had 3 children: John, Thomas, and Patricia.

Helen Golla, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 2 May 1915, died Nov 1994. Married John Cuba and had 3 children: William, Barbara, and Brynda.

Theresa Golla, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 4 Jun 1917, and died 9 Jun 1932.

Joseph W. Golla, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 16 Oct 1919 in Reynoldsville, Jefferson, PA, and died 26 Feb 2005 in Fountain Hill, Lehigh, PA. Married Patricia Orner and had 2 children: Kathleen, who married _____ Antonelli, and Colleen, who married _____ Sutton. Wife Patricia was born 24 Mar 1926, and died in Nov 1987.

Anna Margaret Golla, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 29 Jul 1925, died 19 Jan 1993. Married Marion Meme and had 2 children: Karen and Susan.

Paul Golla, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Regulski), was born 11 Apr 1930. Married Jennie Laboo and had 1 child: Sandra Ann.

Joanna Orsie, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Golla) Orsie, was born 5 Feb 1905, died 8 Jan 1999. She married Simon Gurneau and had 1 child: Jeanne.

Frances Orsie, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Golla) Orsie, was born 7 Dec 1906. She married 1) John Batts on 14 Nov 1927, and had 1 child: Richard, born 3 Sep 1928. Frances married 2) Conrad Mass on 17 Aug 1935.

Mary Magdaline Orsie, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Golla) Orsie, was born 28 Jan 1925. She married Claude Healy on 28 Jan 1925, and had 2 children: Roy Frederick, born 2 Nov 1925; and Elizabeth Louise, born 18 Nov 1927.

Veronica Orsie, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Golla) Orsie, was born 20 Mar 1912 in Norwich, McKean, PA. She married Alfred Mitcheltree on 6 Aug 1930, and had 7 children: Patricia, Paul, Theodore, William, John, Dennis, and Alan. Veronica died 9 Oct 1999.


Children of John and Helen (Golla) Hawk

Paul Hawk, son of John and Helen (Golla) Hawk, was born 24 Jul 1920, died Apr 1983. He married Helen Glossner and had 6 children: Thomas, John, Ann Louise, Robert, Richard, and Kenneth.

Helen Amanda Hawk, daughter of John and Helen (Golla) Hawk, was born 9 Apr 1922. She married Elbert Metz and had 6 children: Carol, Nancy, Diane, Steven, Linda, and Pamela.

Grace Elizabeth Hawk, daughter of John and Helen (Golla) Hawk, was born 7 Oct 1925. She married Chester Bullers and had 5 children: Cheryl, who married James Rettger; James, Theodore, Gerald, and Donna. Grace died Jan 1984.

Children of George and Veronica (Golla) Stojek

Frances Stojek, daughter of George and Veronica (Golla) Stojek, was born 22 Mar 1920. She married William Kovach, who was born 9 Jan 1920, and died 29 Aug 2005. Frances and William had 4 children: Vallery, Michael, William, and Dennis.

Joseph Stojek, son of George and Veronica (Golla) Stojek, was born 5 May 1922. He married Regina Madison and had 3 children: Perry, Terry, and Susan.

Edward Stojek, son of George and Veronica (Golla) Stojek, was born 19 May 1925. He married Rose Cekovsky and had 2 children: Debbie and Gerry.


Children of Martin and Catherine (Golla) Lesneski

Martin A. Lesneski, son of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, was born 1911; died March 1941. Married Elizabeth Marie Smtih and had 3 children: Martin, Veronica, and Margaret.

Dorothy Lesneski, daughter of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, born 5 Oct 1913; died Nov 1980. Married Nicholas Hottendorf. Had three children.

Joseph Stanley Lesneski, son of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, was born 30 Dec 1915; died 13 Apr 2005. Married Margaret Mahalko in 1939. Served in the US Army during WWII, and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct. Had four children: Joseph, Louise, Jim, and Anne. Also has at least seven grand children, and at least eight great grand-children.

Francis Edward Lesneski, son of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, was born 12 Apr 1918; died 25 May 1989. "Frank" married 1) Dorothy May Bradford Parker, 2) Lillian Suzanne Planck. Had two children: Frank and Amy. Also has at least six grand children, and at least eight great-grandchildren.

David George Lesneski, son of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, was born 30 Apr 1923; died 11 Mar 1984. Married 1) Jane McHugh, 2) Julia Corrigan. Had three children with Jane: Catherine, Helen, and Maryann, and has at least three grand children, and at least one great-grandchild.

Anna Rose Lesneski, daughter of Martin Lesneski and Catherine Golla, born abt 21 Jul 1924; died abt Dec 1965. Married Burton Tiffany. Had three children: Cliff, Paul, and Karen.

Edward J. Golla, son of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born 6 May 1917 in Penfield, Clearfield, PA; died 26 May 2007 in Dubois, Clearfield, PA. He married Katherine Welsh and had two children: Edward and David.

Lillian Golla, daughter of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born 30 Oct 1920. She married Tom Neal.

Leo C. Golla, son of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born 25 Sep 1923, died 12 Dec 1987.

Gerald P. Golla, son of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born 13 Apr 1926, died 24 Dec 1992.

Lois Golla, daughter of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born after 1930. She married Vern Kemp.

Donna Golla, daughter of John and Victoria (Michvick) Golla, was born after 1930. She married 1) Jack Black, 2) Gene Hetrick, and 3) Paul Thompson.

Ralph Golla, son of August and Anne (Kilzen) Golla, was born 18 Jun 1921. He married Kay Burton and had 3 children: Susan, Marsha, and August.

Louise Golla, daughter of August and Anne (Kilzen) Golla, was born 3 Apr 1926. She married Eugene Hickey and had 4 children: Patty, Coleen, Anne, and Eugene.
